Voting Question: Should i go to college close to my mom or pursue my future far away from home?

So i'm a freshman in South Carolina, my dad has recently died leaving me, and my mom. I was thinking about my future and what college i'm going to attend. I can either go to a good school like UCLA, UC Berkeley, or USC (University of Southern California), but by doing that i leave her all alone in South Carolina with no one to talk to. Or i could go to a mediocre college, such as Florida Atlantic University, Clemson, or Duke University, and possibly screw my future. My mom says that i have my entire life ahead of me and i should pursue my dreams and become a good engineer. But i don't want to leave her in South Carolina and make her feel rejected.
